Ilaha Mammadova provides myofunctional therapy.
Myofunctional therapy focuses on:
* assessing and correcting tongue posture and movement;
* developing a correct swallowing pattern;
* supporting the function of the lips and facial muscles;
* improving breathing patterns (nasal breathing vs. mouth breathing);
* identifying and correcting mouth breathing;
* preventing and supporting issues related to bite development and jaw growth;
* assessing tongue-tie mobility and correcting it if necessary;
* collaborating with other specialists (orthodontist, dentist, ear–nose–throat specialist);
* improving oral function and coordination of facial muscles;
* developing muscle function through daily habits and exercises for children or adults.
Initial Appointment
During the first appointment, the child attends the consultation together with a parent or guardian. The parent shares observations regarding the child’s development, previous concerns, and any treatment received so far. The therapist evaluates the child’s oral and facial muscle function, tongue posture, breathing, and swallowing, and determines whether involvement of other specialists, such as an orthodontist or an ear–nose–throat specialist, is necessary.
Therapy Process
Following the assessment, an individualized and age-appropriate exercise plan is created for the child to practice at home under parental guidance. The exercises are playful and designed to support the development of proper muscle function. The next appointment is also scheduled in order to monitor progress and adjust the exercises if needed.
Cooperation and Consistency
Good and lasting results depend on cooperation between the parent and therapist, the motivation of both the child and parent, and consistent practice. Early intervention supports the development of a proper bite and healthy facial and jaw growth.
Payment
Myofunctional therapy is free of charge for children insured by the Health Insurance Fund if a referral from a dentist is available.
A visit fee of €5 must be paid at the first appointment.
If the therapist determines that myofunctional appliances are needed, a recommendation will be provided. The cost of myofunctional appliances is not covered by the Health Insurance Fund.
